PSYC 301 Lecture Notes - Lecture 27: Nepotism
Document Summary
Women have a statistically significant percentage of people working in the field compared to men. Due to the women"s sphere (cid:0) things women attend to womanly things; men attend to manly. Used to be higher status/pay to be a professor than practicing in the field (not so much today) Women do not show up as frequently as men in faculty because it was a conflict of interest (called nepotism) People who are proximate to us are more likely to be connected to us. Harder to get a job as a married woman/mother (earlier in the cohort) (cid:0) over time. Jobs not available to women with equal credentials to men simply due to prejudice this opinion diminishes.
