Schedule

- Classes period : From Tuesday, September 4 to Tuesday, December 4.

- Weekly schedule : 3 hours lecture, 1 hour tutorial.

- Final Exams weeks : From Thursday, December 6 to Thursday, December 20.

- Exceptions :

—Monday, October 1 : Qu´ebec’s General Election (no classes).

—Monday, October 8 : Thanksgiving Day (no classes).

—Tuesday, December 4 : The normal schedule will be replaced by a Monday schedule.

Course Overview

Vector Geometry, Systems of Linear Equations, Reduced Echelon Form, Matrix Algebra, Sub-

spaces of Rn, Linear Transformations, Determinants, Eigenvalues, Eigenvectors and Diagonali-

zation.

Restrictions

Not open to students who have taken MATH 221 or CEGEP objective 00UQ or equivalent.

Not open to students who have taken or are taking MATH 123, MATH 130 or MATH 131,

except by permission of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

Not open to students who are taking or have taken MATH 134.

Evaluation

The marking scheme for this course consists of the following three components.

- WebWork (15 %) : These are web-based assignments graded by the computer.

- Quizzes (15 %) : There will be three quizzes scheduled during the tutorial of the following

weeks :

— Quiz 1 : Between September 24 and September 28.

— Quiz 2 : Between October 22 and October 26.

— Quiz 3 : Between November 12 and November 16.

- Final Exam (70 %) : The precise date of the Final Exam will be announced later.

In case of a failed Final Exam, you may be admissible for a supplemental exam in March 2019.

Exercise Sheets

Weekly problem sets will be posted on myCourses and their solutions will be covered during

the tutorials. You are strongly encouraged to attempt all of the problems by yourself before

showing up to the tutorial, as no one shall pass a university level math course without working

through a signiﬁcant amount of exercises !

The course has weekly tutorials, which you are already signed up for. You are expected to

attend.

The Departmental Helpdesk, located in BURN 911, is also available to you, as well as FrezCa,

located on the 5th ﬂoor of the Schulich Library.

All instructors and TAs shall post some oﬃce hours on myCourses. You are strongly encouraged

to visit them during those time slots for any question regarding the course material. If your

instructor or TA’s schedule does not match yours, you may go and see any other instructor/TA.

cial written arrangement has been concluded with your instructor, for reasons he/she judges

appropriate. Otherwise you will be reputed as having missed the quiz and will get mark of 0.

Absences to the Final Exam will be handled directly by your faculty, and your instructor has

no inﬂuence over them.
