A dmz is an important measure for securing a network because it enables access control, prevents network reconnaissance, and blocks internet protocol spoofing. The dmz enables access to services that are outside of the perimeters of a network by implementing network segmentation to make it harder for an unauthorized user to reach the private network. Also, a dmz could use a proxy server to centralize internal traffic flow and to simplify the monitoring of that traffic. The prevents network reconnaissance by providing a buffer between the internet and a private network. This prevents attacks from performing reconnaissance activities that could carry out targets. Even if the dmz was compromised, the internal firewall (installed by the dmz) would separate the network from to the dmz to make it secure.
