MATH 003 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Cytokine, Haematopoiesis, Macrophage
Document Summary
Cytokines are low-molecular weight regulatory proteins or glycoproteins secreted by white blood cells and various other cells in response to a number of stimuli. Cytokines assist in regulating the development of immune effector cells, and immune response such as (activity, differentiation, proliferation, and production of cells). cytokines. Stimulate the development of cellular and humoral immune response. Many cells can secreted cytokines, but the two principal producers are the t- helper cell (th) and the macrophage. Interaction of antigen with macrophages and the activation of t-helper cells leads to release of numerous cytokines, generating a complex network of interacting cells in the immune response. Interleukins are group of cytokines produced by leukocytes and other cells. Currently, over 43 members of this superfamily have been identified (il-1 to il-43). Interferons are a group of cytokines released by cells of the host"s immune system in response to such invading organisms as viruses and bacteria.
