If you"ll recall from module 3, one of the points of consensus regarding radicalization is the importance of ideology in facilitating the radicalization process. In very simple terms, ideology refers to the values and beliefs that underpin one"s world view. Ideologies provide us with basic shorthand explanation for how the world works. For our purposes, ideologies give meaning to acts of terrorism. Put another way, ideologies contribute to the explanation of why? the next three modules investigate various ideologies. In this module, the focus will be on secular ideologies, specifically right-wing and left-wing terrorism. Learning objectives: distinguish what is meant by right-wing and left-wing , define right-wing terrorism and provide examples from canada, define left-wing terrorism and provide historical examples.
