Document Summary

Certain types of brain damage produce a disorder called agnosia". Apperceptive agnosia: patient seems to be able to see an object"s shape and colour and position, but can"t put these elements together to perceive the entire objects. The lateral occipital cortex (loc) is especially activated when neurologically healthy people are recognizing objects. Patients with apperceptive agnosia can see but can"t organize the elements they see in to perceive an entire object. Associative agnosia: patients can see but cannot link that they see to their basic visual knowledge. You can recognize objects event when your information is incomplete. Variations in the stimulus input (i. e. , handwriting) provide our first indication that object recognition involves some complexity. Your recognition of various objects is influenced by the context in which you encounter those objects. Object recognition is powerfully influenced by the stimulus itself. Bottom-up processing: data driven ; processes that are directly shaped by the stimulus. Recognition is also influenced by knowledge and expectations.
