Document Summary

Maybe immortality is bad, in which case death would be good (eventually) Meaningless death gives meaning to life. Many things that one wants only in the state of being alive. No reason for living eternally in human life. Hope was more so to live after death rather than never die. In pure intellectual activity the mind is most free. Least determined by causes outside its immediate state. Desire for freedom = desire to be free in exercise and development of character. Two criteria to be met if given model of immortality is to be appealing to individual: future person must be identical to individual identity condition, life of future person must be attractive to individual attractiveness condition. Crucial distinction b/w content of relevant experiences and their ownership. Endless life must consist in some single absorbing thing. Single-minded and unbalanced pursuit of any activity = unattractive. Endlessly distinguished at three different notions: reliability, density, infinite extensibility.
