Document Summary

Smc proteins are known for compaction and organization of nucleoid. During binary fission, chromosome replicates 2 products at the end of the cell. Begins with replication of dna at the origin then around the dna. Ftsz protein is found in most prokaryotic cells including archaea, it is similar in the function to tubulin which is found in eukaryotes. Chromosomes observed by walter flemming, coined the term mitosis in 1879. Karyotype: specific array of chromosomes, a set of chromosomes. Haploid: (n) 1 complete set of chromosomes. Chromatin: complex of dna + proteins, (40% dna, 60% proteins) Nucleosome: composed of dna, 8 histone proteins. Histone proteins: positive charge, strongly attracted to dna which has a negative charge. Condensin: 2 smc proteins causes for dna to loop. They are involved in condensation during mitosis & meiosis. Kinetochore: protein structure on a chromatid during cell division allows it to attach to spindle fibers. G1 phase: (gap phase) primary growth phase of cell, longest phase.
