Religion a link beyond reality (to the real) The goal is not to judge or to establish truth or falsehood. Recognize the nature and role of a religion in its cultural and social context. Discover what religion might mean as a general characteristic of human society. To some extent, what is or is not religion is a matter of arbitrary definition. It may be that the very concept of religion is a modern, western one. None of the following exists in all religions: Dogma principles that are authorized as true. Natural history origin and evolution of nature. Genesis ( in the beginning ) 1 (1st chapter of the bible) 1 in the beginning god created the heavens and the earth. 2 now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the spirit of god was hovering over the waters. God didn"t create formless darkness and waters (?)
