Document Summary

A relationship where unlike organism exist together is called symbiosis. 3 types of symbiotic relationship: commensalism, mutualism, parasitism. A form of symbiotic relationship in which two species live together and one species benefits from the other without harming or benefitting the other. However, in some instance, both species neither benefit from the other nor provokes any harm: humans and most normal flora. Commensal bacteria act on the host"s immune system to induce protective responses that prevent colonization and invasion by pathogens. On the other hand, these bacteria can directly inhibit the growth of respiratory pathogens by producing antimicrobial products/signals and competing for nutrients and adhesion sites: orchids growing on branches. Orchids are a family of flowering plants that grow on trunks and branches of other trees. The epiphytic plants are commonly found in dense tropical forests. Orchids rely on the host plant for sunlight and nutrients that flow on branches.
