A cell depends on many mechanisms and safeguards to ensure accurate replication, including self vigilance, constant monitorization of the process. DNA polymerase III ensures accurate copies by proofreading and catching its own mistakes, stopping and cutting the error, and by changing its shape to fit a new nucleotide, which it can only do by changing into the right shape.
