Deregulation, privatization, and free trade are prioritized in this framework with the hope that these measures will promote economic growth and improved productivity. Critics contend that these policies, which put the priorities of businesses and the wealthy ahead of those of workers and society as a whole, are to blame for the rise in income disparity and the reduction in productivity development.
A further factor in the rise in income inequality and reduction in employment stability since the 1980s has been the decline in unionization and the erosion of worker safeguards.
