Background and context

Mosses belongs to the division bryophytes. Bryophytes shows alternation of generation. The main plant body of bryophytes is gametophyte which is haploid. After the formation of spores on sporophyte these spores land on the ground surface and develop into the protonema. Then protonema develops into the gametophytic plant body. The Gametophytic plant body produces gametes that get fused and form zygotes.
