Background and context

Restrictive airway disease is associated with lung and characterized by reduced lung volumes, alteration in the lung parenchyma, chest wall, a disease of the pleura, and neuromuscular apparatus. When people are affected with restrictive lung disease, they cannot fill their lungs with air. Their lungs are not allowed to expand with maximal air fully. Restrictive lung disease is often originated due to stiffness in the lungs themselves. In some cases, the stiffness of the chest wall and the damaged nerves may also be because of restriction in lung expansion.
