Background and context
The subphylum Vertebrata is included in the phylum Chordata and it also includes two clades of invertebrates, namely Cephalochordata (Lancelets) and Urochordata (tunicates). Based on the morphological similarities and an increased complexity, cephalochordates and urochordates are included in vertebrata.
