Background and context

Craniates or vertebrata are the members of phylum Chordata which possesses a backbone and cranium. Hagfish and lampreys are jawless fishes, whereas sharks are cartilaginous fish and tuna are Ray finned fishes. These all possesses cartilaginous skeleton with notochord which is a characteristic of vertebrates. All vertebrates are included in the Craniates.
