Jean Piaget is a Swiss child psychologist who is renowned for being the preeminent cognitive theorist of modern times. He focused his studies on maturing children and their intellectual development. He was very interested in discovering how children construct their world view, their mental model of their environment. He didn’t believe that intelligence is fixed at birth by genetics, but that it is very much influenced by the child’s interaction with its environment and how they are allowed to learn or mature. He was a pioneer because he noticed that children learn in different ways than adults, meaning that they are not just miniature versions of adults and perceive the world the way that adults do, but that there are fundamental differences in the way that children filter and use sensory information to learn.
