Social theory an abstract way of giving a general description of something in society. Modernity & modern subjects scientific framework for understanding society by applying science, rationality. Modern subjects is to seek rational answers: positivism - a philosophical system that holds that every rationally justifiable assertion can be scientifically verified or is capable of logical or mathematical proof. Post-modernism all truth is base don a particular space (context) and time. There is no truth (out there) and that we create it. Standpoint theory there is a truth and because i am marginalized i can see it: inescapable biculturality the functions of society are related to the organs, which allow a biological being to exist. Structural functionalism: organic analogy; three types of functions. Symbolic interactionism: looking glass self (in previous notes), front state (presenting)/back stage (authentic) how you present yourself in different situations, ethnomethodology when you violate regular norms to see how people react.
