Order is not simply the right people being in positions of power. Rapid innovation of agricultural production; conquest & colonisation. Emergence of state regulation of economy and private lives. Organising structure of complex advanced societies: war, trade, economy. Social control: sole source of the right to use violence. We can"t use lethal force without huge backlash the state can. Both citizens & threats : creation and enforcement of the law. This is not like society though: maximize profits of capital and not get killed hello state. Lookin" fine: you cannot take the economy out of the equation. Power: ability to do something despite the resistance of others. Culturally based ascribed power: religious leaders, patriarchs. Personality and magnetism of individual: generates following or dependency, strong oratory skills, high social intelligence. Rational legal authority: bureaucratic systems; rule of law: appearance of fairness and efficiency, prevents abuse of power by state. We associate this with objectivity and impartiality.
