River flooded and brought in sediment, fish, etc. What factors do you think would affect formation of a 500 year old first nation site in sw. What would you find: burial site, pottery, tools, bones, foundation of a longhouse. Relative dating of artifacts based on stratigraphy as well as their styles and materials from which they were made. Dating more accurate by mid 20th century via radio carbon dating. Decay of radio active 14c isotope is measured. Increasing dissatisfaction among archeologists with they way conclusions were being drawn.
