SOCB26H3 Study Guide - Midterm Guide: Examined Life, Research Question, Immigration Policy
Document Summary
Us: a mix of private and public institutions. Have lots of undergrad and graduate programs. A bunch of small, unknown colleges and universities: a clear cut ranking system. People, parents, and students know what the top universities are: unequal resources. Well funded from rich people donating stuff (money or buildings), faculty who can find lots of research funding, etc. Don"t get very much money, and the faculty don"t really get research grants: students recruited and distributed nationally. Draw in students from all over the us and even internationally. Companies everywhere really want students from these universities. Might be a few religious based universities, but they are very small: resources distributed more equally. Funding is based on the number of students: students recruited and distributed more locally. Students tend to go to universities near where they live. Employers tend to go for students from universities in the area: universities are not ranked in the same way.
