Life expectancy has increased, detection and treatment has also increased. Inability to create new memories, hippocampus is being destroyed. Memories in the past may also be destroyed/loss (time progression) Psychosis: loss of touch with reality, not normal (hallucinations etc. ) Age is a risk factor, older increases the risk of getting it. Early onset: earlier alzheimer"s starting 30 or 40. Sundowner syndrome: symptom of alzheimer"s disease that increase after sundown. Does not remember the night before, anterograde amnesia. Neurofibrillary tangles and plaques must be detected in the brain to have alzheimer"s. Only found after the death of an alzheimer"s patient.
