Late 60s to mid 1980s very popular during the 70s. Jimmy rodgers song train whistle blues is formally a blues song. Irregular forms: looseness and freedom, sometimes just singing with no instruments, can be just harmonica and singing, etc. Call and response articulating a music idea and having a singer, instrument, group, etc. respond to that idea: creates dialogue in music, not imitation (like instrumental verse in hank williams, i"m going back to old kentucky . Every time he sings a line, he answers with his guitar playing. Irregularity tempo (speed) of the song varies: sometimes a fifth beat to the bar (instead of always four, this flexibility allows johnson to create his own emotional landscape. Sometimes also called chicago blues because chicago was a massively significant centre for the development of this music. Electric instruments: becomes the standard instrumentation for rock music, electric guitar, electric bass, and drums.
