FSN 101 Lecture Notes - Nylon, Synthetic Fiber, Hydroxymethylfurfural
Document Summary
Fighting back against nature polyester does its bit for the planet. (2007, july-august). Wsa, 1-5: polyester, a widely used fiber in the textiles industry, is becoming more sustainable during production and use due to modern innovations, consumers view polyester negatively because it is not sustainable. It is petroleum-based and in turn pollutes water: the innovation discovered by the iic changes glucose to a chemical, hydroxymethylfurfural, which can be used in the production of petroleum-based materials such as polyester. This process allows for an eco-friendly change in which the liquids can be reused: another synthetic fiber that is being recycled is nylon. reusable fiber is incorporate in their packaging productions. Unifi inc. also incorporates recycled polyester in their yarn; the innovative repreve saves the amount of petrol normally used. Consoltex inc. used repreve in their technical fabrics for active wear. Ag also used the unifi product in their zips/fabric usage.
