In one orm or other you have social order- patterns of social roder regardless of humane or not (slavery etc) all are still considered social order. How do you maintain social order: justification: Belief in the legitimacy of social order (making people believe that the social order they live in is the right one the just one). Formation of pro social psychological mechanisms ( forming a sense of shame and guilt, developing loyalty). Extreme point: indoctrination ( 24 hrs. of bombardment of pro social ideologies- forcing communism). Family is the first schools of society- parents teach children the language of fundamental beliefs: education: also falls under the category of indoctrination, appeal to rationality: arguments in favor of usefulness of order. Examples of beliefs and legitimacy of social order: Rich are smarter, rich work harder, poor are lazy, social order is god-ordained. Force: formal- criminal justice system, informal- peer, family.
