Cleopatra was viewed as a threat to roman society. Adultery was legal for men as long as the woman wasn"t married. Caesar"s reckless use of power eventually took a toll. Gaius octavius (octavian) became the heir of caesar"s estate and of rome (in caesar"s will: he was a weak and spoiled adolescent. Mark antony had a reckless reputation (orgies, drinking parties, etc. ) Octavian took charge of the provinces of the west; antony had the eastern provinces. Cleopatra fell in love with mark antony: she learned how to manipulate powerful roman men.
