Agriculture allows for civilizations to have a surplus of food and resources. This allows for people to not have to dedicate their lives to the acquisition of food, which gives more time for people to expand their realms of thought. Ancients worshiped gods of fertility in hope that this would encourage nature to provide them with more bountiful agriculture. Watered wine was beverage of choice for everyone, never really drank without watering it down first. Attempt to channel parts of the river such that it goes to the hillside above. Thus the ancients could use trickle irrigation from the side channels that would allow for the area that could be farmed to be expanded further from the river.
