The breakdown of materials: anabolism: constructive metabolism. 1 cell -> 60 trillion: mitosis/meiosis neoplasia** Increase in intracellular functional units (organelles, substrates, proteins)*: muscular and nervous tissue primary growth form. Accretion: the addition of intercellular materials. Collagen matrices in adipose tissue, connective tissue, or bone: hypertrophy vs. hyperplasia. Flow cytometry: examine and measure microscope particles, cell grows hypertrophy, cell divides hyperplasia, relative content of protein and dna (both go up, hyperplasia only protein increases means hypertrophy)
