Debate started with interest in white collar crime sutherland (1945) Conduct norms more if not equally important. Must be strictly the study of criminal law. Ignores construction of law therefore it: Permits social structure to be studied as casual. Allows consideration of nation states and their actions. Criminal law forms very small proportion of harms which take place daily. Traditional criminology allows state to dictate field. Securities and exchange committee (sec) filed civil fraud lawsuit in 2010. Sold subprime mortgage securities to international investors.
