Arab league: founded in 1945 (same year as united nations) Fatah: founded in 1959 by arafat one of the most prominent people in arab-israeli conflict, one of the factions under plo. 1970: civil war broke out between jordanians and palestinian refugees. Jordanian military defeated plo and arafat moved plos base to southern lebanon. 1973 war: egypt and syria jointly attacked israel on yom kippur in 1973. Jordan supported syria but did not attack directly. Did not want to join conflict directly just to benefit plo: arab league recognized plo as the sole legitimate representative of palestinian interests. Israel survived the attack (with some help from the us) and opec enacted an embargo on all israeli allies. Camp david accords: see previous notes. 1950: also annexed golan heights for strategic properties. Israel annexed east jerusalem (still not internationally recognized) Hezbollah: supported syria and iran, strongest non-state actor in the world, european union does not consider them a terrorist actor.
