HST 202 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Royal Proclamation Of 1763, George Whitefield, Landeskirche
Document Summary
Start of tension between colonies and home country: Home countries saw colonies as a source of raw materials who they could sell finished goods back to and make a profit from. By the early 1700s, colonies were becoming successful and autonomous due to political and social unrest at home and therefore the king"s lack of power. Colonies in north america were much more self-sufficient and less reliant on their home countries than those in the caribbean. Re-establishment of the monarchy"s power in england by charles ii (though he abdicated the throne soon after) Monarchy now had to answer to parliament. Rapid population increase (both europeans and africans/atlantic creoles) Heavily settled colonies around the appalachian area. Europeans liked a buffer between them and the native americans. German settlers were attracted to the tolerant colony of pennsylvania and brought a lot of diversity.
