Bilbo finds an important object, a key to their cave, at the trolls" campsite. Gandalf kills the great goblin using beater, or glamdring, an elvish sword. Bilbo and the dwarves are rescued from the wargs by eagles. Gollum is a slimy creature who lives alone (inside the misty moutains) and posseses a magic ring. Beorn outfits the travelers for their journey through mirkwod and is a farmer who turns into a bear. Bilbo helps the dwarves escape from the dungeon of the elvenking by hiding them in empty wine barrels. Smaug is a dragon living under the lonely mountain. Bilbo confronts smaug in his lair and steals the arkenstone. Smaug seeks revenge by leaving the lonely mountain and destroying esgaroth. Bilbo attempts to negotiate peace by giving bard the arkenstone. In the battle of five armies, the dwarves fight with the men and elves, against the goblins and wargs.
