Beginning the relationship between the physician and the patient. In 19th century, symptom was the subjective feeling that the patient experienced. The signs were the things that the doctor could notice. Symptoms could be described in vague ways, patients may not report accurately, or may lie. Began thinking of disease not in humoral ways, but the anatomical ways. The in spirit of the renaissance, people were becoming more aware of their own bodies. People began dissecting corpses and compare them with ancient text, by gaelin (sp?) Started off by correcting gaelin, then adding what they were nding. By 18th century, people were becoming more interested in the connection between anatomy and disease. Discovered lesions in the body after death, in some cases it was obvious that these lesions had to do with the death. Hippocrates had already laid out how you listen to the chest to hear if there"s uid. Used rolled up paper to better listen to the chest.
