D. w. griffith: birth of a nation (1905) First sci-fi: a trip to the moon (1902) 4,47, incorporated trick photography, special effects, double exposure, use of mirrors, slow motion, fade ins/outs, only 1 camera angle. 1913- edison produces 19 talking pictures: 1920- talkies didn"t come out yet although edison had already made them, believed that people were not interested in hearing sound, movies were acted as like a play or a ballet.
