Document Summary

Adorno was bros with walter benjamin, who wrote the essay the work of art in the age of mechanical. The uniqueness in time and place of a work of art. So what happens when things get mass-produced, the aura of the art gets lost. However, there"s a positive aspect: eliteness removed and the masses get to enjoy the art. The cult and ritual associated to the original work of art is gone, but easy access and appreciation. With the film, you can be absent-minded and still enjoy the work. Adorno doesn"t appreciate what benjamin has to say. Instead, new art forms are just hegemony particular art forms that don"t require much in though: people just want repetition of patterns they are familiar with, standardization . The parts do not contribute to the whole.
