Adolescent angst (comes up a lot as angst : a feeling of deep anxiety or dread, typically an unfocused one, about the human condition or the state of the world in general. Rock and roll was said to provide a temporary relief from this angst. The mindset that was taking place in the 50 s was that the main culture was too boring and rigid in its morals; highly prejudiced against racial differences/women/etc: veritable youth started to crystalize. The hippies called mainstream culture the establishment : now had the urge to squeeze the establishment into making changed. Many changes resulted directly from youth movements over the decades since then: racial discrimination, gender differentiation, sexual repression, etc. took a hit already, fast forward black president elected in 2008 would have otherwise been unthinkable. Youth culture and the changes it has brought about that is what this book is about .
