Formed the the confederate states of america [csa] feb. 1861. Drafted own constitution, made abolition of slavery impossible. President of csa supported succession, felt they had no other choice. Fort sumter on tiny island, thick brick walls on charleston harbor, charleston, south carolina. Opening shots of the civil war in fort sumter, americas bloodiest conflict and birth to modern. Fort sumter was the culumation of two socio-economic systems and later clashing. Wiped out southern economy, leaving them depressed. Capitalism: big businesses given contracts to produce arms for warfare. Industrial war: war in which full power in industrialization was executed in form of war, mass producing guns/ships.
