Document Summary

A hypothesis is used to evaluate their understanding about the relationship between variables. When one or two hypothesis are tested, the outcome determines whether the theory must be revised or if confidence in the theory grows. The data collected by the experimental group is compared to the data from the control group. It is important that besides the effects of the independent variable on the dependant variable, the control and experimental groups are the same. The standard deviation is an index of the amount of variability in a set of data: correlation: the relationship that occurs when two sets of data are related. The strength or degree of the association between the two variables is determined by the correlation coefficient. Inferential statistics are used to interpret data and draw conclusions. The lower the p-value (usually lower than 0. 05), the greater the chance that the data did not correlate by chance.
