Scientific method refers to bodies of techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge or correcting and integrating previous knowledge. We cannot say something is true because it"s standard. Taking babies away from mom right after birth. Can"t test every single woman in this world. Can be tricky, especially if you pick a population not representative. Must do random selection of samples that are representative of the population. A test is reliable if it consistently measures something: Interrater reliability: the amount of agreement in the observations of different raters to who witness the same behavior. Test-retest reliability: the degree of similarity of a child"s performance on two or more occasions. A measure is valid if it measures what it"s supposed to. Internal validity: whether effects can be attributed to the conditions.
