Other forms of commemoration: columbaria, stelae, funerary altars, sarcophagi, & monumental tombs. Excluding infants who died under 40 days, it was mandatory that burial/cremation occurred outside the city walls (to prevent religious pollution)- Monuments lined the streets that led into the city. Place: necropolis outside the porta nocera of pompeii.
