Document Summary

Small differences in childbearing can make large differences in world population, but growth is inevitable: world population continues to rise under all scenarios. Most population growth is in poor countries (africa) Fertility rates drop because of economic development and education (women in education will less likely to have more kids) Kids are economic assets and benefits in poor countries, but an economic burden in rich countries. Less developed countries have much younger populations -> higher fertility and more rapid population growth. Thomas malthus believed there was too many people -> war, pestilence, famine; but there is not too many people (increase in food production) Nearly half of the world"s population is under 25. Billion of them are 15-24 (prime childbearing years) -> pop growth is guaranteed for years to come, which can be a big problem. 232 million+ people live outside their native countries.
