KINS 2295 Lecture Notes - Isotonic Contraction, Microcomputer, Hypertrophy
Document Summary
Muscular strength- the greatest amount of force that muscles can produce in a single maximal effort. 1. dynamic isotonic contraction- tension remains unchanged and the muscle lengths changes which causes a movement of a body part. Concentric contraction- the muscle shortens with varying tension as it lifts a constant load. Eccentric contraction- the external resistance exceeds the muscle force and the muscle lengthens while developing force: isometric contraction- static contraction. Use free weights or machines that allow dynamic muscle contraction. Even isokinetic machines can test strength in isometric, concentric, eccentric modes. Microcomputer which can program at any initial and final force, angle, velocity etc. Accurate and reliable but expensive strength testing considerations. Standardized instructions should be given prior to testing. If warmup is given, should be of uniform duration and intensity. Ensure that the angle of measurement on the limb or test device is consistent among subjects. Consider individual differences in body size and proportion.
