EESA10H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: The Poison, Chemosphere, Main Source
Document Summary
Pesticides are commonly used to maximize crop yield and improve the longevity of plants. Purchasing fruits and vegetables from large grocery stores most likely have pesticide residue on them, and thus gets in to our bodies; accumulating over time if fat soluble. It is very unhealthy, as most of the harmful chemicals found in cigarettes are in the smoke, so it is just as unhealthy to be breathing in cigarette smoke than to actually be smoking them. This effectively reduces the risk of waterborne diseases, however, the chlorine reacts with common organic compounds found in water and produces carcinogenic byproducts. Buying natural spring water is an alternative to reduce the risk of ingesting too much chlorine.
