Idea that men are becoming more like women. Gender hierarchy maintained through: discourses/ideologies, institutions, practices. How does gender structure social practice: how everyday practices are gendered, example: violence being gendered. How are institutions gendered: the state is a masculine institution. Representation: example: women"s appearances at the oscar and the attention it receives, vs men. Education: seen as a problem that young women are wanting/seeking higher levels of education. But this education isn"t necessarily decreasing the income gap. Family/household: more of an individual issue, men are starting to do more housework in general than before. But statistics show that women are still doing more than in the past: as the woman"s wage increases, they do less housework. More likely to pay other women to do the housework. Politics of desire: ideas of relationships (consensual or coercive). Women still do most of the housework and tend to feel more time-stressed than men do.
