BIOLOGY 2A03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Parathyroid Gland, Placenta, Melatonin
Document Summary
Initiated by conscious thought - neural input from there interacts with the endocrine system. Crh released from neurons in hypo - travels to anterior pituitary which release acth. This acts as a tropic hormone which leads to mobilization of cortisol. Cortisol helps your body cope with these situation. Neurons in the hypothalamus release corticotrophin, which travels to the anterior pituitary through the bloodstream to release, acth, this stimulates the adrenal cortex to release cortisol which helps in coping with stressful situations. Hypo - portal vein - anterior -circulation - adrenal cortex. When crh (corticotrophin) is activated and acth and cortisol, Cortisol levels rise and it feeds back to inhibit the release of the tropic hormones that lead to its release. Negative feedback of hormone release from one tropic hormone from anterior to tropic hormone from hypo. Target hormone (cortisol) inhibits the release of its tropic hormones (acth or crh).
