Usa is one of the only wealthy nations that lacks some form of universal health care. Health care costs in both countries rise faster than inflation. Medicare is the unofficial name for a publicly funded health care system. Invented the version of medicare we currently use. Voted the greatest canadian of all time by the cbc viewers in 2004. Deals explicitly with how our health care is financed. Does not deal with how care is organized or delivered. Is a single payer system also called monopsonistic. Characterized by one provider being able to create a market power that would buy all good and services in the healthcare market. Provincial and territorial governments are responsible for the management, organization and delivery of health services for their residents. Federal bodies (e. g. health canada) responsible for setting and administering national principles for the health care system, and for giving services to specific groups (aboriginals, military)
