Land - military plans overrules internationa l diplomacy. 1906: dreadnought took sea as the most powerful battleship ever built faster and more thickly armoured designed to fight at long range (32 km) The schlieffen plan - alfred von schlieffen (1905) Plan: avoid war at 2 fronts: whole german army would invade france, Kaiser wilhelm wanted germany to become a great world power- needed to be able to challenge britain"s navy through belgium and into paris (6 weeks) Army would move to russian border - as the russians would be ready for war. Naval league was set up - make people more interested in the navy (tours and lectures)
