Critical summary 9: kant and the golden rule. In this weeks reading we are involved with comparing the golden rule to kant"s categorical. To begin, let us define the golden rule as do unto others as you would like done upon you , this is basing ethics on rational thinking. On the other hand, kant uses this thing called categorical imperative and maxims to tell us how we should act towards others. Kant states that we act because we do, not because of a rational decision. The golden rule turns ethics and morals into a rational debate and personal assumptions rather than what actually is. Kant also states we should see people as an end and never as a mean. The golden rule does exactly the opposite of kant, it uses the person as an end because you are acting this way so that person will do the same. To illustrate this difference let us take into consideration hitler.
