Overall objectives: history of anatomy, anatomical terminology, basics of tissue. History of anatomy: egypt 1600 bc, refined: leonardo da vinci, anatomy as a science: andreas vesalius. Anatomical terminology objectives: standard position and plains, define terms of position, relation and direction, differentiate the 3 major division of anatomy, describe body cavities, define body compartment. Anatomical position: unless stated, what all terminology refers to, standing erect, palms and feet face forward. Other positions: supine: facing forward, palms flat facing ground, prone: facing downwards, head turned to the left and palms flat facing air. Bending or decreasing the angle between body parts. Straightening or increasing the angle between body parts. Turning body part around it"s long axis away from midline. Rotation of forearm so palm of hand faces anteriorly. Rotation of forearm so palm of hand faces posteriorly. Microscopic (histology): study of tissues and cells, 3. Developmental (embryology): study of different phases of human embryo and fetus development.
