There are a wide variety of types of relationships between species. A single species can and will be involved in more than one relationship (e. g. , predatory, parasitism) at the same time. It is important to understand that the form and function of the plant or animal has been shaped by these interactive relationships through evolution. Community: assemblage of all the populations of organisms living close enough together for potential interaction. Community ecologists study how abiotic factors and interactions between populations affect the composition of distribution of communities. They also look at community dynamics, variability& stability in the species composition of community caused by biotic and abiotic factors. Ex: looking at composition of saltwater marsh after a hurricane. Community ecology necessary for conservation of endangered species and management of wildlife, game and fisheries. Biodiversity defined by: species richness, or number of diff species in a community.
